Let Them Eat Cake!
In a group of three students assembled by the professor, design a themed entertainment show and present a proof-of-concept presentation with the class.
Project requirements include:
A weekly charette with the entire class
A live "performance" or presentation of the proposed show (either in part or in whole)
A fabricated prop or other performance element (costume, scene, model, etc.)
The project must be theme-based
This was a 3-week project.
"The French Fashion Federation is returning to Versailles for the next Paris Fashion Week and has selected famed French sweets-maker Ladurée to provide edible treats for the central reception area...They requested we come up with a visually exciting and interactive themed experience to visually transform this reception space for their prestigious event, creatively serve Ladurée's sweets, and meet the needs of their A-list clientele."
Inspired by traditional French pastries and 18th-century court fashion, Let Them Eat Cake! creates an atmosphere that is at the same time playful and luxe. With costumed servers that serve sweets directly off of their elaborate clothing and themed carriages to bring guests to the runway shows, an air of decadence and indulgence pervades.
For our proof-of-concept presentation, we brought in two actors dressed in full 18th-century garb to serve the class macarons from their hats and crafted a serving display shaped like a towering purple wig. It made our classmates truly feel like royalty!
